UBC Camps International Senior Instructor/Chaperone

Description:   The UBC Camps International Senior Instructor will be responsible for ensuring smooth delivery of all UBC Camps International programs. The position works in partnership with the Summer Office Manager to ensure quality delivery of all aspects of the UBC Camps International program.  The position reports directly to the Manager –Sports and International Camps.

Duties & Responsibilities: The UBC Camps International Senior Instructor will be responsible for ensuring smooth delivery of all summer camp programs, including administration duties, supervising instructors & volunteers, liaising with housing and food services, ensuring safety of campers throughout the day, dealing with camper concerns, addressing behavioral issues.    The lead instructor works alongside the other instructors, and directly with the campers.  This is a hands on position, and may require varied hours of work.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be over 25 years of age
• Experience working with children ages 9-18 in group settings
• Experience working with international youth
• Familiarity and knowledge about both UBC and Vancouver
• Experience in residential and international camps situations, preferably in a supervisory role
• Strong customer service skills
• Experience supervising staff & volunteers
• Hard working & strong work ethic
• Outgoing and enthusiastic personality
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to multi-task
• Current Criminal Record Check
• Valid First-aid/CPR certification
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:

• Class 4 driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one prior to job commencement)
• Second Language an asset (particularly Cantonese or Mandarin)

UBC Camps International Daytime Chaperone

Description:   The UBC Camps International Daytime Chaperones areresponsible for ensuring smooth delivery of all UBC Camps International programs. The position reports directly to the UBC Camps International Senior Instructor and to the Manager –Sports and International Camps.

Duties & Responsibilities: The UBC Camps International Daytime Chaperone will be responsible for ensuring safety and enjoyment of all campers.  Duties include; keeping attendance, supervising meal-times and free time in the residence, ensuring campers have what they need for afternoon/evening activities. Accompanying campers to afternoon/evening activities and dealing with camper concerns, and addressing behavioral issues.  This is a hands on position, and may require varied hours of work, including evenings and weekends.

UBC Camps International Overnight/Weekend Chaperone

Description:   The UBC Camps International Overnight Chaperones areresponsible for ensuring overnight supervision of UBC Camps International programs. The position reports directly to the UBC Camps International Senior Instructor and to the Manager –Sports and International Camps.

Duties & Responsibilities: The UBC Camps International Overnight Chaperone will be responsible for ensuring safety and enjoyment of all campers at all times.  Duties include; keeping attendance, supervising meals & free time in the residence, encouraging social engagement and games in the common space, ensuring bed-time and wake-up are on time, ensuring residence rules and regulations are followed.  Further duties may also include accompanying campers to evening & weekend activities and dealing with camper concerns, and addressing behavioral issues.  This is a hands-on position that requires varied hours of work, including evenings and weekends.

• Familiarity and knowledge about both UBC and Vancouver

Take to the Stage Music Instructor

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Ensuring all participant have a safe, and positive experience at camp
• Assistance with organization & preparation of program supplies and all other Musical Theatre related tasks
• Supervising camp participants
• Handling or re-directing to the Facilitator any parent questions/concerns
• Instructing campers and leading activities
• Ensuring daily attendance is accurately recorded
• Being physically on-site and available during all camp sessions at all times.
• Other miscellaneous tasks as requested by the program Facilitator.

 Experience & Qualifications:

• Piano & Vocal skills and experience is a must
• Degree in theatre and education or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience working with children ages 5-14 years of age in a theatre & camp settings
• First aid training
• Experience and expertise with music, dance, theatre and acting
• Experience communicating with parents
• Patient, calm, creative personality

UBC Camps International Volunteer Hosts

Description:   The UBC Camps International Volunteer Hosts will be responsible for helping students enjoy their camp experience. 

Duties & Responsibilities: The UBC Camps Volunteer Hosts will be responsible for engaging students in conversation and communication.  They will assist students to practice and learn English; encourage conversational interaction, and increase understanding and appreciation of Canadian culture.   This is a hands-on-position that spends weekday afternoons with the UBC Camps International Program.

• Strong communication skills

• Responsible and Reliable
• Familiarity with Vancouver, and Canada
